Rectal Bleeding (Bleeding from the Back Passage):
This is very common symptom, the tricky bit here is that it can be caused by very simply treated conditions but also it can be secondary to serious cancerous conditions that require immediate attention.
It is likely that you will need a COLONOSCOPY.
If you experience these symptoms please consider early check and discussion with your GP, with few exceptions in very young patients, All patients will need a form of Endoscopic Examination which is passing a Scope through the bowel following bowel preparation to examine the bowel and decide what is the best morality of treatment.
Bleeding can be caused by:
- Hemorrhoids (Piles)
- Anal Fissure (Cut / Split in the back passage)
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease:
- Chrohn’s Disease
- Ulcerative Colitis
- Nonspecific colitis
- Colonic Polyps
- Colonic Cancer
It is also important to mention that the Bowel Cancer Screening in UK is now launched and every patient at the age of 55 should have a one off scope. This is due to the fact that Bowel Cancer is the Fourth most common cancer in UK
